Nintendo has released a ton of new information about their next handheld, the Nintendo 3DS. I found this trailer on Joystiq and realized I haven't covered the 3DS at all yet. Watch the 5 minute collection of game clips and I'll point out the games I am looking forward to playing:
Note the original trailer video was removed because of a copyright claim by Nintendo. I've selected an older trailer video
So far I am excited for the Resident Evil Mercenaries and possibly the new game which happens between RE4 and RE5. Another trailer shows you can now slowly strafe and shoot at the same time at least with Hulk in Mercenaries. I'm going to pass on Bomberman since it looks to be yet another clone and not pushing the 3D envelope like Bomberman 64. I am not that excited about Nintendogs+Cats as the realistic looking animals clash art styles with the simple Mii characters roaming the streets.
Some good games surface like the new Paper Mario, Star Fox 64 3D and Ocarina of Time 3D. While I really want to play Starfox and OoT of time again, I can't see myself shelling out I estimate $40 for each of these games. I'll wait and play them later. The Paper Mario game looks new to me with the Bob-bomb area or else I haven't played Paper Mario 64 in such a long time.
Skipping a lot of the shooters, puzzle games and racers, I am left excited about Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater, Mario Kart 3DS, Kid Icarus and the new Pilot Wings. If I had to only buy one game out the these, it would of course be Mario Kart since I grew up with the best version: Mario Kart 64 as well as the 2nd best DS version. The other racers like Ridge Racer and Driver are not my cup of tea.
As you can tell, I mostly am looking forward to First Party game releases and I will be trying to pick up the 3DS if it is $200 or less when it is launched in March of this year. I'll keep on the lookout for new information as the launch date nears.
